SKU (stock keeping unit)

A SKU (stock keeping unit) is your store's own internal code for a product or variant, used to track inventory. It is not a global identifier: unlike a GTIN, a SKU only means something inside your own systems.

What this means for your store

An AI agent cannot use your SKU to match your product to the same item sold elsewhere, because your SKU is private to you. That job belongs to a product identifier like a GTIN. Keep your SKUs for your own inventory, and make sure the global identifier is filled in too, so agents can recognize and compare your product.
