The Agent-to-Agent Protocol (A2A) is an open standard for letting independent AI agents communicate and hand tasks to each other. In commerce, it lets a shopper's assistant talk to a store's or platform's agent.

A2A is background plumbing, not something an owner sets up. It matters because it is part of how the pieces connect: a shopper's agent can delegate to a merchant's agent to check stock or place an order. It works alongside UCP, MCP, and AP2 rather than replacing them.
